Co-dependency is classified as a dysfunctional relationship. It is when one person assumes the role of 'giver' whilst ignoring their own needs and wellbeing for the sake of the other person, 'the taker'. This doesn't have to be just romantic relationships. It can include best friends, parent and child relationships, and other family members.
